Job Summary

Why this role: Clark is scaling its tax function, and this seat is a chance to build rather than just maintain. You'll be a key player in the compliance execution for a growing group of affiliated businesses, help build new analytics and automation infrastructure as part of a high performing team. This position reports to the Income Tax Manager.


Job Summary: You'll prepare and perform first-level review of Clark and its affiliated businesses' US federal, state, and local tax compliance. This includes supporting the filing calendar, workpaper standards, and review process, along with fixed asset reviews, nexus and apportionment analysis, and incentives, BPT/PPT, and real estate reporting. You'll support the quarterly forecasting process, ensuring forecasts reflect current-year business events and tax law changes, with resulting cash tax obligations reviewed and remitted accurately and on time. You'll also help build the analytics and tracking infrastructure that gives the Manager and Director real-time visibility into compliance status: variance analysis, nexus and apportionment analytics, and a compliance tracker. You'll collaborate closely with the Income Tax Manager and the broader tax and finance teams. 


Job Location: Preference is for candidate to live within reasonable driving distance to our Lancaster, PA campus (2205 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster, PA 17602) for occasional travel.

Responsibilities

1. Reporting and Compliance

  • Maintain the compliance calendar, ensuring all federal, state, and local estimated tax payments, extensions, elections, and reporting are timely filed.
  • Prepare accurate and complete taxable income computations, including variance analysis and impacts of tax law or business environment changes.
  • Perform nexus reviews and state tax research, evaluating the state tax footprint and supporting nexus and apportionment analytics.
  • Prepare tax fixed asset reviews, ensuring depreciation and basis positions are accurate and audit-ready.
  • Identify available credits and incentives, and prepare incentives, BPT/PPT, and other real estate and annual reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with the external accounting firm on federal, state, and local tax filings for partnerships, LLCs, and S-corporations, while also preparing certain in-house prepared returns.
  • Perform first-level review of filings prior to Manager review, escalating and communicating appropriately throughout the process.
  • Prepare timely, accurate, and complete responses to federal, state, and local tax notices, examinations, and audits, with a mindset to mitigate incremental tax exposure.


2. Quarterly Forecasting

  • Partner with accounting and finance teams to ensure quarterly reporting supports accurate tax treatment and reliable cash flow planning.
  • Prepare and optimize forecasts to reflect current-year business events and tax law changes.
  • Calculate quarterly cash tax outflows and estimated tax payments across all business entities: preparing internal reporting documents and coordinating with accounting and treasury on required cash movement to ensure accurate, on-time remittance.
  • Prepare quarterly tax summaries for shareholders and other stakeholders in a timely manner.


3. Process Improvement

  • Maintain high standards for tax documentation, workpapers, ownership records, calendars, and internal review processes.
  • Maintain a compliance tracker and review materials that make compliance status visible to the Manager and Director.
  • Leverage technology to improve data collection, validation, and reporting, with a continuous improvement mindset and a hands-on approach.
  • Build effective relationships and improve workflows and communication with accounting, finance, legal, and business teams, serving as a strong, responsive business partner to non-tax teams and external advisors.
  • Serve as a technical resource, providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff members.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 3+ years of progressive experience with a regional or national accounting firm or a large domestic tax department, including pass-through entity tax and compliance expertise.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. pass-through federal and state tax law, with experience maintaining partner tax capital accounts, taxable income, and outside tax basis.
  • Experience with fixed asset / depreciation review and state nexus and apportionment analysis.
  • Proficiency with Excel Power Query, BI reporting tools, and AI-assisted automation tools to improve data collection, validation, and reporting.
  • Proficiency with tax research tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; JD, MST, or CPA a plus.
