Responsibilities

1. Reporting and Compliance

  • Maintain the compliance calendar, ensuring all federal, state, and local estimated tax payments, extensions, elections, and reporting are timely filed.
  • Prepare accurate and complete taxable income computations, including variance analysis and impacts of tax law or business environment changes.
  • Perform nexus reviews and state tax research, evaluating the state tax footprint and supporting nexus and apportionment analytics.
  • Prepare tax fixed asset reviews, ensuring depreciation and basis positions are accurate and audit-ready.
  • Identify available credits and incentives, and prepare incentives, BPT/PPT, and other real estate and annual reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with the external accounting firm on federal, state, and local tax filings for partnerships, LLCs, and S-corporations, while also preparing certain in-house prepared returns.
  • Perform first-level review of filings prior to Manager review, escalating and communicating appropriately throughout the process.
  • Prepare timely, accurate, and complete responses to federal, state, and local tax notices, examinations, and audits, with a mindset to mitigate incremental tax exposure.


2. Quarterly Forecasting

  • Partner with accounting and finance teams to ensure quarterly reporting supports accurate tax treatment and reliable cash flow planning.
  • Prepare and optimize forecasts to reflect current-year business events and tax law changes.
  • Calculate quarterly cash tax outflows and estimated tax payments across all business entities: preparing internal reporting documents and coordinating with accounting and treasury on required cash movement to ensure accurate, on-time remittance.
  • Prepare quarterly tax summaries for shareholders and other stakeholders in a timely manner.


3. Process Improvement

  • Maintain high standards for tax documentation, workpapers, ownership records, calendars, and internal review processes.
  • Maintain a compliance tracker and review materials that make compliance status visible to the Manager and Director.
  • Leverage technology to improve data collection, validation, and reporting, with a continuous improvement mindset and a hands-on approach.
  • Build effective relationships and improve workflows and communication with accounting, finance, legal, and business teams, serving as a strong, responsive business partner to non-tax teams and external advisors.
  • Serve as a technical resource, providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff members.
