Job Summary

Why this role: Clark is scaling its tax function, and this seat is a chance to build rather than just maintain. You'll support the compliance execution for a growing group of affiliated businesses and help build new analytics and automation infrastructure as part of a high performing team. You’ll also play a lead role in GAAP and tax accounting for fixed assets for the group. This position reports to the Income Tax Manager, with work reviewed by either the Senior Income Tax Analyst or the Income Tax Manager depending on the project.


Job Summary: You'll be responsible for GAAP and tax accounting for fixed assets, including maintaining the fixed asset subledger, account reconciliations, book and tax depreciation, and drafting related journal entries. You'll prepare Clark and its affiliated businesses' US federal, state, and local tax compliance. This includes rolling forward and preparing tax workpapers, nexus and apportionment analysis, and incentives, BPT/PPT, and real estate reporting. You'll also calculate and process quarterly estimated tax payments, ensuring payments are remitted accurately and on time. You'll collaborate closely with the Senior Income Tax Analyst, the Income Tax Manager, and the broader tax and finance teams. You'll also manage the administrative side of the tax function, such as maintaining files and records, tracking notices and correspondence, and coordinating information requests. 


Job Location: Preference is for candidate to live within reasonable driving distance to our Lancaster, PA campus (2205 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster, PA 17602) for occasional travel.

Responsibilities

1. GAAP and tax accounting for fixed assets

  • Work with accounting and operations teams to prepare monthly fixed asset account reconciliations, investigating and resolving differences between the general ledger and the fixed asset subledger.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining the fixed asset subledger, entering newly placed-in-service assets and recording disposals and transfers and preparing related journal entries.
  • Calculate book and tax depreciation, tracking book-to-tax differences and maintaining tax basis schedules in ProSystem.
  • Forecast book and tax depreciation, incorporating planned capital expenditures and disposals, to support budgeting and quarterly estimated tax payment calculations.
  • Support fixed asset roll-forwards, audit requests, and property tax reporting with complete, audit-ready documentation.


2. Reporting and Compliance

  • Adhere to the compliance calendar, ensuring all federal, state, and local estimated tax payments, extensions, elections, and reporting are timely filed.
  • Prepare filings and workpapers for review by the Senior Income Tax Analyst or Income Tax Manager, communicating open items and escalating questions appropriately throughout the process.
  • Calculate and process quarterly estimated tax payments based on approved forecasts, coordinating with accounting and treasury on required cash movement to ensure accurate, on-time remittance.
  • Assist with nexus reviews and perform state tax research, supporting evaluation of the state tax footprint and nexus and apportionment analytics.
  • Help identify available credits and incentives, and prepare incentives, BPT/PPT, and other real estate and annual reporting requirements.
  • Support coordination with the external accounting firm on federal, state, and local tax filings for partnerships, LLCs, and S-corporations, including gathering and providing requested information, while also preparing certain in-house prepared returns.
  • Track incoming tax notices and assist in preparing timely, accurate, and complete responses to federal, state, and local tax notices, examinations, and audits, with a mindset to mitigate incremental tax exposure.


3. Process Improvement and Administrative Management

  • Play a key role in the ongoing initiative to redesign how our tax compliance process works, including documenting current workflows, testing new approaches, and helping implement and standardize the updated process.
  • Maintain high standards for tax documentation, workpapers, ownership records, calendars, and internal review processes.
  • Leverage technology to improve data collection, validation, and reporting, with a continuous improvement mindset and a hands-on approach.
  • Build effective relationships and improve workflows and communication with accounting, finance, legal, and business teams, serving as a strong, responsive business partner to non-tax teams and external advisors.
  • Manage the administrative side of the tax team, including organizing files and records, tracking correspondence, coordinating information requests, processing tax payment requests, and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience with a public accounting firm or corporate tax department; exposure to pass-through entity tax compliance preferred.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax law; experience with pass through structures a plus
  • Experience with fixed asset accounting, depreciation, and account reconciliations; experience with CCH ProSystem a plus.
  • Strong Excel skills; familiarity with Power Query, BI reporting tools, and AI-assisted automation tools to improve data collection, validation, and reporting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with tax research tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA-eligible, pursuing CPA or MST a plus.
