Job Summary

Focused on strengthening employee readiness, performance, and long-term success, the Employee Optimization team ensures that associates have the tools, training, and support needed to excel in their roles. The Instructional Design Intern will work closely with the Employee Optimization team to support the design and development of engaging learning experiences, including eLearning modules, job aids, and performance support resources that promote clarity, consistency, and operational excellence across the business. This role is a hands-on introduction to the instructional design field, offering the opportunity to apply learning theory, content development, and project management skills to real training initiatives. Responsibilities

What you'll have an opportunity to do: 

  • Assist in the design and development of e-learning modules, job aids, and other instructional materials using tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, or similar. 
  • Support the creation and refinement of onboarding materials, including manuals, presentations, storyboards, and interactive e-learning content. 
  • Help translate complex information provided by subject matter experts (SMEs) into clear, learner-friendly content. 
  • Assist in conducting needs assessments to help identify skills gaps and learning requirements. 
  • Support the development of training schedules and programs for new hires and existing employees. 
  • Help build, organize, and maintain training content and courses within the Learning Management System (LMS). 
  • Help organize a library of training resources, guides, and SOPs. 
  • Collect and analyze feedback from training participants and learners to help improve content, delivery, and effectiveness. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, trainers, and SMEs to ensure alignment with departmental standards and best practices. 
  • Assist in evaluating existing training materials and recommending improvements. 
  • Support the maintenance of documentation and version control for instructional materials. 
  • Assist in tracking employee progress and performance metrics during onboarding and beyond. 
  • Develop a self-driven “Legacy Project” which will produce real-world value related to instructional design, and a lasting impact on the division even after your internship has concluded. 

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs.

Qualifications

Experience

  • An interest in adult learning principles and effective engagement strategies. 
  • Coursework, project experience, or a demonstrated interest in instructional design (ADDIE model), education, learning technology, or a related field. 
  • Familiarity with or eagerness to learn e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise 360, Adobe Captivate), SCORM packaging, and Learning Management Systems (LMS). 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). 

Education
